Attorney Jim Smith

Jim Smith’s practice focuses on estate planning and administration, real estate, elder law and business matters. He is a member of Elder Counsel, LLC. Before joining Smith Law, P.A. in 2014, Jim worked as a paralegal at a major New York City law firm. After college he spent a year in Taiwan teaching English to elementary school students. Jim is a 2013 honors graduate of Vermont Law School where he was a member of the Vermont Journal of Environmental Law and a fellow for the US-China Partnership for Environmental Law. Attorney Stoddard Smith

As founder of Smith Law, P.A., Stoddard “Todd” Smith has extensive experience representing individuals and businesses throughout the Midcoast region.  Todd’s Master of Laws in Taxation (LL.M.) makes him especially qualified to advise clients with respect to complex taxation issues and business-related legal matters.  He is a member of Elder Counsel, LLC. Prior to starting his own practice, Todd was a partner at Brunswick’s Ranger, Fessenden, Copeland & Smith, P.A., where his practice initially consisted of the general practice of law, including civil litigation, estate planning, and business law.  Todd started the firm in 1993 with concentrations in estate planning and administration, real estate transactions, and business representation. Todd is a member of the Maine State Bar Association and the American Bar Association., as well as the Maine Estate Planning Council, and is active with several local charitable organizations.  Additionally, Todd has presented numerous educational seminars to community groups on estate planning and business related legal and tax concerns.
